10/5/02 - Sail for Hope. After what was predicted to be a somewhat scray day, the weather got nice. We need to get better around Jamestown though. Since we were short handed with Mike & Carol having conflicts, and Gil with his last minute "accounting emergency" (informal poll syas we're not buying it!) we had some execution problems with the Spinnaker. Like, we couldn't get it up. At least not without scaring the spit out of Steve and me. The good news was that we still finished with our class, and a boat in our class got DSQ'd so we weren't DFL. We were 50th in the fleet out of 89, which all things considered was OK. Bad news s that even if we had sailed with a non-spinnaker rating in that fleet we still would have been about 10th. 9/28/02 - Champion of Champions. F-ing main halyard. 'Nuff said.

9/14/02 - Hospice Regatta. So we screwed the spin set. We didn't win, but we were fast as hell and raced well. We also beat a lot of our friends too. That's fun. I'll take 4th in a 25 boat class, and 6th in a 70 boat fleet. Given we were the 2nd to last start group, we had to pass sixty boats or so. And it was nice and warm too. I did hear from some other boats about how well we were doing in the Bikini...er...I meant Spinnaker leg of the race. Official Results

9/4/02 OK OK OK...I took forever to update this. Some of the details are a little fuzzy now...

9/01/02 - CYC Around the Island. On the surface, this was ugly. We had a complete brain-fart at the start and had to duck the whole fleet. We lost the spin sheet and almost the spinnaker on the Jibe North of the Island. Steve took a pretty good shot in the head. But some good things happened too. Other than those two events, we sailed pretty well. More importantly, we raced our first spinnaker race without any crew borrowed from any other boats. 11th in our class (of 15) and 55th in the fleet of 110 aren't bad, all things considered. Steve's head wasn't broken, neither was the spinnaker pole. We had a good time at the after BBQ. I'll take it for the landmark that it was. Official Results

8/28/02 - EGYC Race #10. Exultation stays home, Mary Kimatian drives Puff. We are late 'cause we went to pick up Jim off the chase boat. We start the race :15 late with only the main up, and barely an inkling what the course might be. We figure "hey, we're late, so we can at least follow someone." This holds until we catch all but the fastest boats at the first mark, and we're the only ones that do a bear-away set. We smoke everyone and take the lead. Uh-oh. For once it's a good thing we're a little fuzzy on Jibe-sets, but in the meantime we're hosed after the next mark. Luckily we second guessed the R/C, and Puff later confirmed this by catching us coming down wind. We round the leeward mark four feet behind them, and pass them going upwind. Once again, we guessed right. There was much rejoicing on board when Puff tacked back towards us, although it was iffy for a while. We get our first Wednesday Night gun and crack open the champagne, but Sweet Surrender once again comes out of nowhere to snag the bullet by :47. Now for the weird part. With this result we tied for third in the series with Morning Dance and Sarah. No one was more surprised than me. Still awaiting an R/C verdict on the tiebreaker. And I was even driving on this one! 8/24 & 8/25 - NBYA Weekend #4. We take a first for the weekend with a score of 7 over three races (1-5-1). We tow a lobster pot or something for much of race two - how else could a Pearson 10M beat us to the windward mark? Hooked two bluefish on the way home Saturday. Super light wind on Sunday. Ashley broke her bikini out, but unlike Jim's girlfriend neglected to bring her bottom along. She did not believe us that we would not be offended by her using her thong as an acceptable substitute. 8/21/02 - EGYC Race #9. B.J. starts driving again. We take Puff all the way to the first mark. We stuff and roll Exultation ("Try easing your sails and going behind us" - helpful advice to Exultation from Rob). Excellent race all around. Unbeknownst to us Sweet Surrender got another 9 sec/mi from the PHRF folks. They come from nowhere to take second from us by :20. Official Results

8/17/02 - Leukemia Cup. Ashley oversleeps. Excellent race in non-spin after waiting hours for wind. Should have had the heavy #1. Regrets expressed by most about using the light number one, and missing Ashley in her bikini while waiting for wind. Topless Gil and Michael are no substitute. Excellent sandwiches by Carol though. This race had much confusion to it, although I think at this point most is resolved. We thought we had #1, and were shocked to not get it. Reasons include: 1) The Scratch Sheet had spinnaker PHRF's for most of the boats instead of Non Spin. 2) The R/C somehow came up with an 11.1 mile course, the best we could do was 9.2. We got second, even with our measured course we would have been second by about :10 or so. Results were finally mailed out for review and e-mailed to us. Official Results (Excel File)

8/14/02 - EGYC Race #8. Rob is still driving. B.J. Is trimming spinnaker instead of Steve L. who is off doing the fair. Some confusion on from the spin trimmer on what exactly happens during a jibe. Also the spin pole acted up. Not a great race, but still a 4th. Official Results

8/7/02 - EGYC Race #7. I'm sure we would have done really well if I hadn't taken the boat on vacation. Beginning to hit our stride.

7/31/02 - EGYC Ladies Race. Oh Yeah. We da...man? We get the bullet for class A with Jill (Francis? Is that still her last name?) driving the boat. Am I detecting a pattern here? Official Results

7/24/02 - EGYC Race #6. B.J. does bow (and Jim B. too). The infamous "let's run aground when we're in first place" race. Not a low though, because we were kicking butt until then. Relentless saves us from a DFL by :02. Official Results

7/17/02 - EGYC Hornipe. We skipped this one. I was at J/World and a lot of other people bagged. During NYYC Race week too.

7/10/02 - EGYC Race #5. OK, so you really didn't miss me that much. Rob drives and we're :31 off the bullet. I have a nice vacation though. Official Results

6/26/02 - EGYC Race #4. Tight one, six seconds behind Puff. Firm lock on 7th though. Official Results

6/19/02 - EGYC Race #3. Isn't this the one where we started about 4:00 after the rest of the class? Horrible traffic jam for torrential rains, most people were really late. Yuk. We weren't DFL though since Relentless withdrew after losing a crew member overboard. Official Results

6/12/02 - EGYC Race #2. We TIED for 6th on this one. Should have written a better rounding routine on the scoring site...we actually were about .2 seconds or so ahead of Riptide, but that got lost to rounding. Official Results

6/6/02 - EGYC Race #1. Pretty good race, lot's of wind. We learned a lot. We certainly could have found the :49 we needed in a handful of places. There's no question that we are going to be competitive this year if we can work a couple more hinks out of the process. The Jib Sheets are at NE Yacht rigging getting trimmed and the J-locks are getting switched to Equiplites. I also ordered some heavier duty shackles for the sheet & guy blocks. It was odd for me being in front for so much of the race. We placed ahead of more boats this week than I did in total on Wednesday races with two seasons on the C&C. I'll take it...for now! 5/29/02 - EGYC Tuneup. Nothing like wandering around in the fog for two hours trying to find the marks to get you ready for the season. Except maybe doing it shorthanded. Seven of us were there, and we made the wise decision not to fly the good spinnaker. Too bad, we were only 2:32 nehind he next boat which we probably would have made up with the chute. Assuming we didn't destroy it, run aground, or collide with another boat all of which seemed like high probabilty occurences at the time. We had fun though and Steve L. got to drive for a while I tried to figure out where the hell we were and where we were going. I don't think he liked it that much though... Official Results

5/25/02 - FIGAWI. Oh baby, we got a trophy. 3rd place in the team race with our team mates Flashpoint and Betsea. Also a not disrespectable 7th of 13 in a pretty tough A class. With less than 1:30 between places 4-7 it wasn't bad at all. As soon as I get my hands on a digital camera I will post a picture of that spiffy prize they awarded us.

5/14/02 - AHYC Spring Ceries #4. We got the freakin' gun. No spinnaker, but we crossed the line before the rest of 'em. We still got wiped on adjusted time but damn that felt good. Offical Results

5/7/02 - AHYC Spring Series Race #3. Gotta love those Kleenex spinnakers. No word on if we'll ever see that POS again. Another fourth, but we were second over the line! Next week we might even get a gun. Official Results

4/30/02 - AGYC Spring Series Race #2. I think we were fourth again, but it was a much nicer, cleaner fourth. It all just felt better, don't you think? Official Results (This link seems to be broken - Week #2 dropped off their site. It's not me Carol, I swear.).

4/23/02 - AHYC Spring Series Race #1. Official Results

Update! - we were actually fourth of six, in spite of what we did to the spinnaker. Yikes.
